Coach Sherman graduated from Portville Central School in New York in 1972. He was a 3 time Section VI Champion, accumulated a varsity record of 73-5 and was an Honorable Mention All-American. Coach Sherman received a scholarship to wrestle at Florida Technological University (now UCF). He wrestled in the Division II National Tournament 2 times; in 1974 he won the Florida State Collegiate Tournament at 118lbs. and the State of Florida AAU Tournament at 136.5lbs. Coach Sherman was the head wrestling coach at Seminole, Apopka and Colonial High School before becoming an administrator for Orange County Public Schools in 1985. His wife Gay, daughters Susan and Jessica are avid wrestling fans and have helped Coach Sherman run Metro Conference, District and Regional Wrestling Tournaments for the past
20 years.
In August 2006 Sherman joined Head Coach Johnny Rouse as a member of the National Wrestling Hall of Fame - Florida Chapter. |
